In 1937 Chosen Machine Works was founded. The company is specialized in ship-building and machine building. In 1976 Chosen Machine Works merges with Hankoo Machine Industrial Company and are from then on known as Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd. The meaning behind the name Daewoo is “big world”or ‚big universe’ and is synonymous with the Korean way of manufacturing. In the 60s Daewoo introduces its first forklift trucks to the market. It was a great succes and in 1983 Daewoo signs a 10-year contract with Catterpillar Inc. to produce forklift trucks under the name of
Caterpillar.
Daewoo's European adventure
In the mid-80s Daewoo establishes itself in Europa, namely England and Belgium. Until it got acquired in 2005, Daewoo remained an important player in the market of forklift trucks.
Acquisition of Daewoo by Doosan
In 2005 Daewoo Heavy Industries is acquired by Doosan Group, a conglomerate that also comes from Korea.The name is subsequently changed into Doosan Infracore. All forklift trucks are still all manufactured in Korea, despite the fact that Doosan has manufacturing facilities in China as well.
